Football Coaches Australia (FCA), in collaboration with Football Federation Australia (FFA) National teams’ coaches and management, held their inaugural Advanced Licence coaches professional development event at the Australian Institute of Sport on Tuesday 11 December 2018.

The event was attended by sixty Advanced Licence football coaches, who found the Event extremely beneficial for their continuing professional development and football industry networking. Attendance at the PD event gained the coaches 30 CPD points.

Certainly having the National team coaches, Graham Arnold, Andrew Clark, Trevor Morgan and Tony Franken, as FCA members, assisted in the collaborative delivery of the PD and peer networking program.

The Socceroos coaching and management team welcomed the attending coaches into “a day in their life” and the day provided ‘on pitch’ and indoor PD and video analysis sessions, delivered by Graham (with Analyst Doug Kors) and Andrew Clark.

The day also featured a facilitated coach discussion session, focusing on effective ways to create coach-player performance relationships from a leadership perspective. The session was led by panel members – National Coach Education Manager Sean Douglas, USyd Professor Donna O’Connor and PhD students Gina Haddad and Pouria Nabi. Socceroos Assistant coach Rene Meulensteen detailed the Manchester United leadership model under manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

FCA looks forward to both Gina’s and Pouria’s PhD research outcomes, FFA’s new Pro Diploma format (in conjunction with AIS) and working with Sydney University to develop and deliver joint leadership/ management PD programs for coaches.

PwC Senior manager Nick Rosamilia outlined the framework of the 2019-22 FCA Strategic Plan and gained survey input from coach attendees.

FCA will now collaborate with FFA National teams and FNSW, in March 2019, to deliver the Matildas Coaches Program PD event.

“The FCA/FFA event went really well and was a great success in my eyes. Of course it was not just the formal sessions that were thought provoking but the opportunity outside those where colleagues chatted about their views on what we heard or saw that was valuable too……. I hope we gained a few new members as a result as well……..Congratulations on the initiative and I look forward to the next one”.

“It was pretty awesome. There’s another in the works with our national women (next yr), so keep an eye on FCA’s website. One of today’s highlights was definitely hearing about René’s experience working for Sir Alex Ferguson. GA’s tactical insights were also  ‪#thefutureisbright
